「はだしのゲン」

英会話の先生と、クラスの人が、私のギプスの上に、「早くよくなって」と励ましの言葉をかいてくださいました。私は前に娘と息子に頼んだのですが、そんなのアメリカ映画の中だけよ、と拒否されました。私の英会話の先生はオーストラリア人で、国ではそんなことはしないけど、してみたかったとのことでした。それにしても、私の指、色が変わっていて、腫れていて、ひどい！

Encouraging Words on My Plaster

My English teacher and one of my classmates wrote get-well wishes on my plaster: “GET BETTER ♡ “ and “GOOD LUCK.” I had asked my daughter and son to write something, but they refused, saying, “ That’s in American movies.” My English teacher is from Australia and they don’t do so in their country, but he wanted to. Oh, my fingers! They are discolored and swollen!

新年あけましておめでとうございます。おめでたいのも束の間で、お風呂場の濡れたタイルで滑って、寝ている間に、手が腫れてきました。翌朝、病院に行くと、なんと手首の骨にヒビがはいっていました。手から肘の上までギプスで固定すると、もう全然痛くなくなりました。5本の指は意識してよく動かした方がいいそうです。濡れた分厚い布を手から肘の上まで貼り付けて、その上から包帯をぐるぐる巻きにしました。ぽーっと暖かくなり、それが冷えると、かちかちの堅いギプスができあがりました。

一人で髪を結べない、イヤリングを着けられない（つけなくてもいいのですが、、、）、「いただきます」の時合掌の手の位置が左上のほうになること以外は､あまり不便ではありません。お風呂の時は、娘に介護してもらっています。アメリカ映画のように、ギプスに「ママ、がんばって」とか書いてよ、と、子供たちに言ったら、「それはアメリカだけ」と却下されました。

あまりに手の部分の包帯が汚れるので、手袋を2種類買ってきました。

Cast

Happy New Year! Happy moments were short-lived. I slipped and fell on the wet floor of the bathroom and my left hand got swollen while sleeping. The next day I saw a doctor and found my wrist bone had a crack. I didn’t feel any pains after I was in a short arm cast. I was told to move my fingers intentionally. The doctor put wet, thick cloths on my arm and applied a bandage. I felt warm and the cloths turned into a hard cast.

I can’t tie my hair up or put my earrings (I don’t have to…) by myself, and I have to join my hands in prayer on the upper left side when I say “itadakimasu.” I don’t suffer inconvenience except those. When I take a bath, my daughter gives care to me. I asked my children to sign my cast like “Be patient, Mama” like in American movies, but they rejected saying “That is only in America.”

 I bought two kinds of gloves to hide a dirty bandage on my hand.

12月の3連休に、95才のお母様、61才の旦那様、そして60才の私のシニアグループで、山中温泉に行ってきました。クリスマス寒波が来るという予報で、取りやめるように、周りから説得されましたが、強行しました。雪で帰られなくなったら、キャンセルした人たちの部屋が空いているわ、なんて、のんきに考えていました。そこら中の温泉宿の空き室を見つけるのも大変なくらいでしたから、そう簡単にはあきらめられませんでした。

　自宅と違って、ホテルはトイレに行くにも、お風呂に行くにも、どこも明るく、暖かくて快適でした。夜には、暖かな部屋の窓から降りしきる雪を眺めて、子供の頃を思い出しました。天を見上げて、降ってくる雪を見ていると、自分がまるで天に昇っていくように感じたものでした。

　翌朝、心配した雪は、ほとんど積もっていなくて、ホットしました。

Hot Spring

My ninety-five-year-old mother-in-law, my sixty-one-year-old husband and I, sixty-years old, went to a hot spring in Yamnaka during holidays in December. People around us tried to stop us because of a Christmas cold wave, but we went ahead with a visit to a hot spring. We thought if we couldn’t come home because of heavy snow, we would have vacant rooms that others booked in vain. How easygoing! We couldn’t give up so easily since it was difficult to find vacancies on that day in many hot spring hotels.

It was very comfortable to go to the bathrooms and everywhere in the hotel as it was bright and very warm unlike in our house. I was looking at heavy snow out of the window of the warm room at night, and I remembered my childhood. I used to feel as if I were ascending to heaven when I looked up at the falling snow.

On the next morning, we had some snow in spite of worrying about much snow.

絵の先生が、東京の息子さんのご近所に引っ越すため、最後の教室になりました。途中ちょっと抜けた時期もありましたが、先生のおかげでおよそ10年楽しく続けてこられました。

Art Class

My painting teacher is going to move to her son’s neighborhood in Tokyo. So our art class is over. We had a short time-out but I could continue to paint pictures for about 10 years, thanks to my teacher.

USJのお土産です。スヌーピーの顔の人形焼きで、中にカスタードクリームとチョコレートが入っています。かわいいし、おいしい！お菓子の箱の紙で、飛び出すクリスマスカードを作るようになっていたので、作りました。

Ningyo-yaki

This is a souvenir from Universal Studios Japan. It is “ningyo-yaki” with Snoopy’s face. There is custard cream or chocolate in it. It is cute and good! We can make a pop-up Christmas card from the lid of the paper box. So I made it.

冬になると、洋服の袖が長くなり、台所仕事の時、袖口がよくぬれます。腕まくりをすると寒いし、袖口が伸びるし、スチィールのアームバンドをするとずり落ちてきたり、痛くなるし、で、困っていました。そして、生協で、こんないいものを見つけました。小さいアームカバーです。

Arm Covers

Sleeves are long in winter. When I cook, my sleeves often get wet. If I roll up sleeves, I feel cold and the edge of the sleeves become extended. If I put steel armbands, they slide down or I feel pain in my arms. I felt uncomfortable. And I found a nice gadget in COOP. They are small arm covers.

60才になったので、ジパングクラブに登録しました。会員書が送られてきました。これで実家に行くのに、電車賃が割引になり、うれしいな。

Jipang Club

As I became 60 years old, I signed up and registered for Jipang Club. A membership card was sent to me. That makes tickets to my birthplace discounted. How grateful!

東京に住む子供たちからの私の誕生日プレゼントは、手袋ホルダーです。鞄の中をごそごそしなくてもいいし、これは便利！キーホルダーもこれに留めておくとすぐ取り出せて、いいです。

Glove Holder

翌日25日は3人でディズニーシーに行きました。去年はできたばかりのタートルトークをうっかり見るのを忘れたので、今年は長い列について見てきました。スクリーン上の亀がまるで観客の様子をどこかから見ているようで、対話がとてもおもしろかったです。

タワーオブテラーに乗って、窓が開いたら、スカイツリーが見えました。その後は、鞄も足も宙に浮くくらいのフリーフォールが待っていました。海底2万マイル、アクアトピア、エレクトリックレイルウェイ、ベネチアンゴンドラに乗り、レイジングスピリッツではトロッコで一回転してきました。ビッグバンドビートは、クリスマスソングも加わっていました。ラッキーなことにクリスマスウィッシュの中央の座席の抽選に当たり、とっても華やかなショーを楽しみました。

　ここ何年かで、雨の降っていないディズニーシーは初めてで、今までにない人出でした。昼間は暑いくらいでした。スーベニアプレート付きアップルパイケーキ、ポップン・シュリンプ、シー10周年記念プレート付きヨーグルトケーキを食べました。ニューヨークデリでマイルハイ・デリ・サンド、シュリンプ＆サーモン･ベーグルサンド、デリサラダとビールでお昼でした。ザンビーニ・ブラザーズ・リストランテでワインのボトル、トマトとモッツァレラのピッツァ、シーフードドリア、生ハムのサラダ、エビとゴボウのフリットで夕食をとった後、すばらしい花火を見ました。

Disney Sea

    We went to Disney Sea on November 25. Last year we forgot to see Turtle Talk which had been newly built. This year we stood in a long line for it. The turtle on the screen funnily talked with some of the audience as if he were looking at us from somewhere.

    When the window of Tower of Terror opened, we saw Tokyo Sky Tree. Then we got free fall and my bag and feet were up in the air. We rode Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Aquatopia, Electric Railway, Venetian Gondola. We rode Raising Spirits and went into a 360-degree roll. We enjoyed Christmas songs and dances in Big Band Beat. Fortunately we won seats in the center in a drawing and enjoyed a glamorous show of Christmas Wishes.

    We had a sunny day in Disney Sea for the first time in five or six years. We had never seen such a crowd of people. It was rather hot by day. We ate apple pie cake on a souvenir plate, Poppen Shrimp, yogurt cake on a plate in commemoration of ten years. We had Mile High Deli Sand, Shrimp & Bagel Sand, Deli Salad and beer for lunch at New York Deli. We had a bottle of wine, tomato and mozzarella pizza, seafood doria, raw ham salad, fritto of shrimp and burdock for supper at Zambini Brothers Ristorante. Then we saw gorgeous fireworks.

11月24日に、旦那様、娘と3人で、ディズニーランドに行きました。車で来たのも、駐車場も初めてなので、どこまで向かったらいいのやらわからず、ランドへの出入り口から遠くに車を駐めてしまいました。

　暖かい晴れた日で、太陽の下では暑いくらいでした。ピーターパン、ウエスタンリバー鉄道、ビッグサンダーマウンテン、ホーンテッドマンションに乗り、３ＤのキャプテンＥＯと新しくできたばかりの３Ｄのミッキーのフィルハーマジックのショーを見ました。ホーンテッドマンションは、クリスマス仕様で、幽霊たちがサンタさんの帽子をかぶっていました。ディズニー･サンタヴィレッジ･パレード、ジュビレーション！、エレクトリカルパレード･ドリームライツを見ました。エレクトリカルパレード･ドリームライツは去年とは違う出しものもありました。花火は年々豪華になっていき、中に緑色のクリスマスツリーの形をしたものがありました。

　テリヤキチキンレッグ、ミッキーチュロス、スプリングロール、スーベニアプレート付きブッシュドノエル、クッキーキャラメル、ソフトクリーム、チーズプレッツェル、ピーカンナッツマフィン、ピザ、フライドポテトを3人で分け合って食べました。マイクのメロンパンは本当にメロンの香りと味がしました。チョコレートポップコーンのスーベニアバケットのふたは、スイッチを入れると、赤、黄、緑の電気がかわるがわるつき、夜きれいでした。

　初めてのクリスタルパレスでのビュッフェスタイルディナーを40分待ちで、いただきました。デザートも種類が豊富で、あまりにおいしくてチョコレートケーキとクリームブリュレを2個ずつ食べました。

Disneyland

My husband, my daughter and I went to Disneyland on November 24. We went there by car for the first time and we didn’t know the gateway, so we parked our car far away from it.

    It was clear and rather hot under the sun. We rode Peter Pan, the Western River Railroad, Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and we saw 3D Captain EO and 3D Mickey’s Philhar Magic which had been newly created. Haunted Mansion was decorated for Christmas and ghosts are wearing Santa’s red cap. We saw Disney Santavillage Parade, Jubilation!, Electrical Parade Dream Lights. Electrical Parade Dream Lights had some new features adding to the usual ones. The fireworks are getting fancier year by year, and there was a green shape of a Christmas tree among them.

    We shared teriyaki chicken leg, Mickey churro, spring roll, Buche de Noel on a souvenir plate, cookie caramel, whippy ice cream, cheese pretzel, pecan muffin, pizza and French flies. Mike’s melon bread tasted real melon. A lid of the souvenir bucket of chocolate popcorn has three lights of red, yellow and green. It is very beautiful when we turn it on when it gets dark.

    We had a buffet-style dinner at Cristal Palace for the first time. We had to wait for forty minutes to enter it. There were various kinds of dessert there and I ate two pieces of chocolate cake and crème brulee each.
