Blossoms in My Yard and a Japanese Bush Warbler

There is a hint of spring in the air at last. I heard a Japanese bush warbler chirp for the first time in my yard on March 19th. We have blossoms of cherry, daphne, apricot, camelia, and so on. I feel exhilarated. I’m just a little sad because the number of apricot blossoms is decreasing year by year.

The Interview about Project Gen

Ex-representative Mrs. Asazuma and I had an interview with a reporter from the Hiroshima branch office of The Asahi Shinbun Company on March 16th. We talked in detail about how Project Gen was established and how we got to translate “Barefoot Gen” into Russian and English.

Morningglory is still blooming!

It’s mid-October. Morningglory in my yard is blooming. It started to bloom quite late. Is that why? The blossoms are white, red, blue, and light blue. They are so beautiful. I enjoy making sure they are in bloom every morning.

The harvest in Our Yard

I don’t know why, but the harvest in our yard was bad this year. Maybe it’s because of the hot summer without much rain. Japanese ginger’ leaves grew big, but I got only 12 gingers. I made great use of them as a relish for cold noodles. Almost all the peaches fell into the ditch, but we ate 8 of them. They were good. Figs never had the second phase, and the fruits were small and sweet. We got 24. Then we are expecting persimmons, but we can’t see many of them on the tree.

The First Persimmon in My Yard

I completed the painting of the chrysanthemum, which was beautiful last autumn.

The morning glory finally started to bloom. Is it late?

I picked the first persimmon in my yard. It was the only one that got ripe. It was soft and sweet!

The Fig Tasted Good!

The fifth fig in my yard was very sweet! I pick the blueberries every three days. I made a small amount of jam. I also pick Japanese ginger every three days.

The First Fig in My Yard

I picked the first fig. The figs in the first phase were very big and not sweet till last year. But they are so small and dry this year. It has been too hot and when it rains it rains cats and dogs. I wonder if that’s why the figs are so small. I put sugar and lemon juice on the halves and baked them. They were not the greatest. How sad…

“The 19th Peace Memorial Assembly”

Bandou and Nishita from Project Gen took part in the “The 19th Peace Memorial Assembly” of the Japan Protecting Children Group online on August 13th. This year, the lectures by Kirichenko Maria and Kawamura Suguru were held. Mrs. Kirichenko translated Osada Arata’s “The Children in Hiroshima” into Russian and Mr. Osada established the Japan-Russia Cultural Center. Their lectures were very interesting and time slipped away. There were 51 participants in the venue and more than 50 online from Japan and Russia. the high school students reported their activities in the High School Students’ Peace Seminar” in the second part of the assembly. I was very moved by their steady thinking.

“Barefoot Gen Promotion Group” donated 1 set of “Barefoot Gen” in Russian each to the Russian Government Television, the Russian Embassy, and the lecturer.
